New tenancy laws require training rethink

The first changes to residential tenancy laws in 20 years are now open for public submissions and will introdce the final legislation in the new year. The draft chenges provide increased rights and and place increased obligations on both the landlord and the tenant.

Latest revision of CPD Proposal outlined

Office of Fair Trading has just released it's latest proposal for CPD for 2008. There are now three points categories so this is closer to the first system but more complex that the previous proposal. It now seems that RTO delivered CPD will require only 4 hours @ 3 points or a half day seminar with an assessment.

New property training package endorsed

The CPP07 Property Services Training Package that includes the Property Development, Sales and Management sector has been endorsed by the National Quality Council (NQC) and signed off by relevant ministers in each of the States and Territories.

Westpac Outlook for Australian property 2007-2009 released.

Westpac have released their Outlook for the Australian Property market through to 2009. The report predicts residential markets to rise bwteen 2% and 4% with the runaway markets in the mining boom states to come back to normal growth rates. They believe that the rental shortage and stable prices will see rental prices increas by 10% and returns increase to above 5% in the major centres.

Changes to CPD from July 1 2007

The Minister for Fair Trading has announced that the government will
adopt the recommendations of an independent evaluation of Continuing
Professional Development (CPD) programs to enhance and improve their
operation for property and building licence and certificate holders.

December 2006 official rental figures released

The Department of Housing release figures of rental statistics each quarter for the number of properties rented, rental values and market trends. The figures for December 2006 quarter have been released and make interesting reading.

Fair Trading cracks down on agent advertising

Agents have always used poetic licence to promote properties in their best possible light in advertising. The watershed Argy V Blunts Lane Cove of 1990 pointed out the difference between misleading conduct and "Puffery" and has been the reference case since then.
