The Department of Housing release figures of rental statistics each quarter for the number of properties rented, rental values and market trends. The figures for December 2006 quarter have been released and make interesting reading.

Across Sydney met area, the annual increases based on figures from new bonds entered into showed annual increases ranging from almost negligable in some outer areas to in excess of 14% in others, particularly the Northern Beaches and inner western areas such as Canterbury and Marrickville. The Central Coast has growth in the 5-7% range and Newcastle closer to 10% across the board.
